I did this with Laura yesterday. She was the kind of model I love working with. A normal girl you could easily be standing next to on a bus who is just trying to do something to help her break out of the normal day to day mold.

I think this image came out well.

Though ~arealitystudios is already well known for his beautiful nudes, I felt compelled to feature "The Real Kind of Freedom" because of its outstanding sense of free expression. Not only is the piece outstanding for its depth and feeling of liberty, but also because it shows the viewer than not every model needs to fit the mold created by consumer trend and the media, the 'perfect' female body type we always see in magazines and on TV. Perfection is often unique to the eye of the beholder, as can be seen here. ( Featured by !Mike )

Hey, I don't know you are anything. I just followed this from one of my friend's favorites, but this is awesome! I love the meaning behind this pic, and the shot, and the area...and everything. :) I think she looks a lot better than Cosmo girls, too, because she is real instead of silicone! :D

If someone looks at you like you're weird, THEY'RE weird. If someone calls you a freak, THEY'RE the freak. If someone tries to make you feel inferior, THEY'RE inferior, for people project their worst fears on others. No one can make you less than you are.

I've just read through most of the comments on this photo and I don't think I can add much in praise that hasn't been said......
...but I'll try, lol!

Being a larger girl myself, I love the feeling looking at this gives me. I'm already a pretty confident girl, but it brings back memories of how amazing it felt to finally embrace myself as I am, and, while never ending my efforts to better myself, enjoying who I am today. I have alot of great qualities-I'm very smart, I'm a loyal friend, I'm a good mom, I'm honest to a fault......but I always felt my looks were holding me back. But it wasn't my looks...it was the way I felt about my looks. Because I look the same as I did a year and a half ago, but I have many more doors open to me now. All that's changed is my approach to life, and my opinion of myself. This piece makes me feel that rush all over again...thank you for giving me a means to relive a great moment in my life.

That being said, I feel like I have to address some comments....

First, there are lots of people who prefer big women. The statement that fat women are not attractive is a half-truth...you forgot to add "to me". Every person is different. You can't make a blanket statement like that and expect it to be blindly accepted as truth. *shrug* You happen to agree with the standards for beauty that society has set..that is your right, and I respect it. But don't assume that everyone else is the same, or you are doing yourself a disservice.

Second, the average size woman in America is size 12/14. This girl is average sized. Not obese; not suffering from health problems as a result of her extreme size. (I don't get why the anti-fat folks seem to think it is their right to worry about a fat person's health anyway; it seems to me like they are grasping at straws to justify their own intolerance of the beautiful differences in people. However, the anti-skinny folks do the same thing with calling on eating disorders, so what do I know? I will say though, that every time this sort of discussion is raised, it has a pattern..a model's "realness" (is that even a word? lol) is praised, then someone starts saying it's ugly, then when pressured to be tolerant, they call on health issues as back-up, then eating disorders get brought up to counter that.... Point being that usually people who appreciate different or real looking subjects don't get defensive until given a reason to. You rarely see people go into typical model photo's comments and start going on about how grotesque seeing her ribs are, and how eating disorders are the bane of society. *shrug* Tolerance, people.)

Third, and MOST IMPORTANT......art is not about conforming to society's standards. It is about the artist's vision, and being left-brain thinkers who live outside of the box, I think it's safe to say that the two rarely coincide. It really makes no sense to see someone suggest an artist be more safe with his selection of subjects....make your OWN art if you want to dictate that, and make it the way you want it to be. Don't try to corral someone else's creativity into the little box you decide is acceptable. They created what they wanted, and you may like it, and you may not, and you have every right to feel the way you feel about it. But please, accept it, as the product of an artist, much like yourself, no matter how different your mediums or your visions.
